World Elephant Day 2026 – Awareness Programme on Elephant Conservation

World Elephant Day 2026 was observed on 12 August 2026 through an awareness programme organized by the Karnataka Forest Department, Bhadra Tiger Reserve, Chikkamagaluru, at Prof. S. P. Hiremath Hall, Kuvempu University, Shankaraghatta. The programme aimed to create awareness about elephant conservation, wildlife protection, biodiversity and the importance of preserving forest habitats.

The programme was inaugurated by Shri Pulkith Meena, I.F.S., Chief Conservator of Forests

As part of the programme, Shri Raghavendra M.P., Lecturer, Sri JCBM College, Sringeri, delivered an informative talk on elephants and their ecological significance. He explained the vital role of elephants in maintaining forest ecosystems and discussed elephant habitats, conservation measures and human–elephant conflict. He emphasized the need for greater public awareness and responsible participation in wildlife conservation.

The programme was also attended by forest officials including Shri Santhosh Sagar H.R., Assistant Conservator of Forests, Bhadra Wildlife Sub-Division, Lakkavalli; Shri Charan Kumar M.G., Assistant Conservator of Forests, Bhadra Wildlife Sub-Division, Chikkamagaluru; Shri Sudhakar B., Range Forest Officer, Bhadra Wildlife Range, Tanigebailu; Shri Rajeshkabu Nadap, Range Forest Officer, Bhadra Wildlife Range, Muthodi; and Shri Suhas K.T., Range Forest Officer, Bhadra Wildlife Range, Hebbe.

The awareness programme provided valuable insights into elephant behaviour, wildlife conservation, forest protection and biodiversity management. The initiative of the Karnataka Forest Department and Bhadra Tiger Reserve served as an important platform for promoting awareness about the conservation of elephants and their natural habitats. The participation of Shri Raghavendra M.P. of Sri JCBM College, Sringeri, contributed meaningfully to the programme by sharing knowledge and creating awareness about wildlife conservation and environmental responsibility.

 On 26th September 2025, the Youth Red Cross Unit and NSS Units of Shri JCBM College, Sringeri jointly organized an insightful talk titled “ Food for Health .” The resource person, Dr. Suhas H. D. Doctor,Dhanwanthari hospital,sringeri   addressed the gathering and highlighted the importance of balanced food habits and mindful consumption in maintaining good health. He emphasized how dietary choices directly influence physical well-being, immunity, and lifestyle diseases.
